Why do I need to have the Power Steering Fluid Serviced? Power Steering Fluid is petroleum base like motor oil. It breaks down like any other oil in the vehicle. Heat from the engine and the Power Steering Pump cause the oil to break down and get dirty use. Over time the hoses start to get hard and leak the fluid out. If the Power Steering Pump get to low on fluid the impeller Will run dry and start to break off little pieces. Once the pieces get down to Steering Gear Box or Rack and Pinion, they can clog the system. When that happens, the only fix is a new Power Steering Pump, and Steering Gear Box or Rack and Pinion.
